About Me

Hi, I'm Anneka.

I provide individual and couples therapy in Brooklyn, and across New York, helping people move from insight to real, lived change.

My Story

I started the way most therapists do: trained in traditional talk therapy, learning to help people make sense of their lives through insight and understanding.

Over time, I noticed something. Clients would leave a session with real clarity about their patterns, and the patterns would stay exactly the same. They understood why they got anxious, why they kept having the same fight, why they couldn't trust themselves. But insight wasn't changing how they felt living inside it.

That changed how I practice. Over the past decade, I've moved toward therapy that works with the body and the present moment, not only the story, because that's where I've seen lasting change actually happen.

My Therapy Style

We work with what's happening now, not just the story of how you got here.

My work is depth-oriented, active, relational, and experiential. That means I'm not a quiet, note-taking presence, I'm engaged with you in the room, tracking what's happening for you moment to moment, and guiding the pace rather than just following wherever the conversation goes.

In practice, that looks like this: rather than moving quickly through your story, I'll ask you to slow down, to stay with a feeling a little longer, to notice what's happening in your body, to pay attention to what's happening between us right now. That noticing isn't the end point. It's how we find what's underneath the pattern, the fear, the old belief, the automatic response, so we can work with it directly instead of just talking around it. Over time, that's what allows the reaction itself to change, not just your understanding of it.

Approaches I Use

I draw primarily from AEDP and EFT, integrating IFS, Hakomi, and elements of CBT and DBT where they're useful.

You don't need to know what any of that means. In practice, it means our sessions feel less like talking in circles and more like experiencing something different, so you leave more connected to yourself, not just more informed about yourself.

None of this works without safety. Healing happens through real connection, and our relationship becomes a place where you can access the parts of yourself you've learned to hide, before bringing them out into the world.
